ROSKILL ROAD BOARD AFFAIRS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —On perusing the letter in your columns of the 22nd December, signed by the presidents and secretaries of. the Roskill West Ratepayers' Association and the Mount Roskill Progressive Association respectively, I would like to say a few words regarding the £50 election expenses that the above gentlemen treat so lightly, which I suggested could be saved and spent to advantage tarring our footpaths, etc. They say £50 is "neither here nor there," but would they, if conducting a successful business of their own make such a statement under similar circumstances? I think not. It is to be hoped that if Mr Jones is successful he will not, as a member of the board, treat the finances of Mount Roskill in the same airy fashion as the gentlemen who are supporting him. I consider that we, as ratepayers, require the best possible men, not only at the present juncture, to represent us on the road board, but at all times. That was one of my reasons for suggesting that Mr. J. R. Robertson, as being the first candidate in the field, and one who has very large interests in the district and a successful business experience of over 20 years in the city, should be elected to the board unopposed. Especially is this the case when there will be.the general election in the first week in May, 1027, requiring nine members. —I am, etc., WASTE NOT, WANT NOT.
