IRRIGATION SCHEME.

m CENTRAL OTAGO PROJECT. BIG EXPENDITURE INVOLVED. DUNEDIN, this day. The Irrigation Commission has recently devoted a considerable amount of time to an economic survey of the proposed Upper Manuherikia irrigation scheme, which involves an outlay of approximately £1,000,000, and, if taken in hand, will irrigate about 100,000 acres. The engineering survey is already completed and declared practicable as to the matter of levels and quantities and water available. A scheme of this nature would mean much to Central Otago, but very properly most careful consideration has to be given to the quality of land for irrigation; in other words, whether the land is good enough to sustain the expenditure by the Government and charges upon farmers. , Tie same commission has just finished the economic survey of the proposed Roaring Meg scheme. ~ ~ - ™
