i ) CONVINCING VICTORY. QUEENSLAND'S POOR SHOW. MELBOURNE, December 22. Victoria defeated Queensland by an innings and 169 runs. ResDonding to the home side's big total of 533 on the first innings \vit,h 147 the Bananalanders though improving their cricket fell short of their opponents, scoring- only 217 runs when the last wicket fell (Rowe 20, Moyes 70, Gough 21). Heavy rain overnight delayed play for an hour and made conditions difficult for the batsmen. The bowlers had to use sawdust freely. Moyes and Gough batted well, but the other batsmen made a poor showing against the bowling of [ Ryder and Morton. Morton took four wickets for 57. j Blackie two for 55, Ryder three for 27 [ and Hartkopf one for 35. N.S.W. SUCCESS. ADELAIDE, December 22. New South Wales had little difficulty in gathering the necessary 446 runs to give them the verdict over South Australia on a wicket that was good. The home team compiled 500 in the first innings and 286 in the second, N.S.W. totalling 341 on their first visit to the crease. In to-day's play Andrews made 126, Kippax 42, Morgan 116, Jackson, not out, 56. Tlie wicket was good. Andrews and Kippax carried the score to 189, when Kippax was smartly thrown out by Pritchard. Andrews and Morgan, in spite of numerous bowling changes, then gave a vigorous display of stylish, attractive batting and brought the total to 301. Andrews lost his wicket through jumping out to Williams' first ball. After luncheon Morgan played slashing cricket, but gave one chance, an easy catch, when his score was eight, which Grimmett dropped. Jackson played a lively, punishing game against the tiring bowling, though the fielding was smart. N.S.W. won by four wickets.
