George Devitt, who surrendered to the police after confessing to the murder of Emma Hill, aged 17, whose mutilated body was found on the bank of the Yarra River on December 3, has been committed for trial on the charge of murder. The annual report of the Bureau of Sugar Experimental Station estimates the production of sugar in Australia at 420,000 tons, a surplus over the Australian consumption of 80,000 tons. SYDNEY'S BUILDING YEAR. (Received 11 a.m.) ' SYDNEY, this day. During -the year just ending 10,844 new buildings have been erected in the metropolitan area at a cost of £13,129,----000, compared with 10,989, costing £11,587,000 last year. j
