HENDERSON TOWN BOARD.
. The monthly meeting of the Henderson Town Board was held on Tuesday evening. The chairman (Mr. E. G. Rowntree) presided, and there were also present: Messrs. Cranwell, Hart, Kennedy, Hartnell, and Norcross. Mr. H. G. R. Mason, MJP. for Eden, wrote that he had made inquiries concerning the right of members of a local body to trade with the body of which they were members. The law did not permit of the members of a Town Board, doing so, but the question would probably be considered at the next meeting of Parliament. He had also interviewed the Postal Department re the improvement of postal sources at Henderson, but nothing could he done in the matter at present. The New ______ Town Board Wfote requesting the board tb co-operate With them in protesting against the Auckland City Council being the sole authority for the granting of motor bus services. It was unanimously decided to do so, the opinion of the board being that the authority should be in the hands of an impartial tribunal, it was also decided to support the proposal to form a transport committee. The scoutmaster of All Saints' troop of scouts requested permission for his troop to camp in the Henderson Domain, and the request Was granted. Tenders for the construction of Rata Street, ranging from £696 13/ to £500, were received, and the lowest, that of Mr. F. D. Ushei-, Was accepted. In connection with this Work. Mr. Cranwell pointed out that it would be to the advantage of the board to have a concrete footpath instead of scoria and shell, and offered to pay the difference (£SO) in the cost of forming the footpath on his side of the street. The offef Was accepted. In reply to" a letter from the board, urging the completion of the concrete road over the Coronation Bridge, the City Engineer wr6t_ thit it Was intended to lay down a hot mix on the uncompleted portion, and that the work would be proceeded with at once. It was pointed out that the original agreement was for a concrete road, and it was resolved to write to "the engineer to that effect. Mr. F. S. Strong wrote offering a por-j tion of his property Oh South Road for the purpose of making a road, and it was decided to accept the offer, the board | undertaking td jay the necessary expenses. i The saiutary inspector reported that no! cases of infectious disease had occurred! during the month, and tlidt measles hadj almost disagp-afed. . i The foremaji's report indicated that the work of draining South. Rb_d as far as Mr. Strong's property had been completed, I and all that was nOW _rp_Uir_d was the laying of the pipes 6n View Road. Metal for repairing this road had just come to hand. The water iriains had been regularly, flushed, and all aftplicatiohs for meterhad been attended td; Complaints had bee— received regarding the qbality of the water from some of the rfesidents on T_ Atatu Road, but when the new streets now under consideration had been reticulated, this should make a difference, as it would give a cdnipletfe circuit to most of the road. The sum of £585, being a further instalment on the contract for the Town Hall, was passed for payment. Four applications were received for the position of caretaker fdt the new town hall, and Mr. J.
