BOXING DAY.

THIS YEAR'S OBSERVANCE. Inquiry was made to-day at the office of the Labour Department regarding the observance of Boxing Day, which this year is on Sunday. The Holiday Act, while providing that, if Christmas falls on a I Sunday, it shall be observed on the following Monday, does not, strange to say, refer to Boxing Day falling on a Sunday. « In the past it has always been the custom, when Christmas Day falls on a Saturday, to observe the following Monday as Boxing Day, added to which there is provision in quite a number of industrial awards that in the event of a specified holiday falling on a Sunday it shall be observed on the following' Monday. This will govern the position this year.
