GRAIN AND PRODUCE.

CANTERBURY MARKETS. (By Tele«raph.---Preas Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. At no part of the year is a quieter time experienced than just before Christmas. Nobody ia paying 6/ for wheat now, and there is reluctance to give 3d less, but in any case very* little business can be reported. A few parcels of wheat are being bought for. February delivery at 5/9, It is known that 5000 tona of Australian wheat has been bought for delivery in shipments over the next two months, Oata crops are likely to be very heavy and the area in crop is large. Already crops are in stock on light land and near the sea coast, and in many eases they have cut out fairly well. There should not be'much wrong with sample. There Is very little bran and pollard on the market. The indications are that North Island poultrymen are not short of feed. A few deals in potatoes and onions were reported yesterday, A Christohurch firm made'some forward purchases of potatoes fos April-May-June delivery at. £3 10/ on trucks at country stations, and onions are looking particularly well and some record yields are certain. If we do not get Sydney business there is almost * certain to be an over-supply. ——;,..,. 1.,..,;..—----WHEAT CARGOES. LONDON, December 20. Wheat cargoes are firm. Sellers are asking threepence to sixpence advance, but the demand is inactive; Parcels were in moderate request at a similar advance, but closed with the market quiet. Speaking of the Dominion's wheat requirements for 1927, the "Christchurch Press" says: "There is .a decided uneasiness as to the extent to which the Government system of permits for fowl wheat is allowing Australian wheat to come in during this next two months." The "Press" adds:. "There is a strong suspicion that the North Island fowls do not see all this duty free imported wheat." CANADIAN WHEAT. ".'-", THE 1027 HARVEST. Latest reports concerning wheat planted for [ next harvest show -that for- Canada, excluding British Columbia, the condition oh October 31 of fall wheat is. reported as 99 per cent.
