WOMEN JUSTICES.
— . i A- a warm supporter ot the iu-tk-? I and wis-doni of appointing women to the ! i Commission of the Peace, we mar s<ls j I a word ot two on the first of the-* j appointments to the Bench. It is ■ curious and not creditable that New j ! Zealand, which thirty odd years ago gave ' the franchise, to women, should have i delayed so long in giving them the right j I t-> dis;.ense justice. In Britain they have | I had this right for years, and no one | j susrirests that anybody is a penr>y the j ! wim-e. Some time the Government 1 ! wit-ely appointed a number of women jto 1* associate meml-ers of Children's i Courts, and these associates aDd a number | lof women prominent in municipal and j j m trial work have now been selected) ja- New Zealand's first women justices. i The list, is an excellent one; indeed, in j capacity and character we would back jit against some lists of men that have I been gazetted. We are sure that these I women will justify the trust of those i who have fought to have this rignt conceded.
