MINING NEWS.
MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Maorilnnd Consolidated. —The mine manager reports that an advance of only 4ft was made in No. 4 level, mainly due to getting, near the end of the break and the ground being very troublesome. Much extra ground came in, which meant extra trucking, and consequently slower progress. The battery manager reports good progress, practically all the material required being now on the ground. The engine recently purchased as an auxiliary is being erected, and the water pipes to bring in the water supply for the peltou wheel will be finished this week, when it may be possible to have a trial run to test the pipesMount Welcome.—The manager reports that good progress has been made with the rise to the Blue Peter level, and it is expected to hole through before closing down for holidays. Barker's level is now cleaned out up to the winze, and the next few days will see all the mullock that has been dropped in drive past the winze cleaned out, and after the holidays it is hoped to get down the gear and start off the New '' Year with both the winze and the stope above it working on gold. ' Kuranui. —The manager reports that the winze on Barry's reef from the lower level crosscut has been sunk 4ft. a total of __Sft. Tbe reef stUl averages loin wide, and looks well. At the old battery level, a start has been made to clean out and retimber. A distance of 20ft has been completed an* raUs laid. The object of cleaning out this level is to cut Barry's reef about 50ft lower than the present working level, where the reef in the winze looks very promising for making gold, also to have a try at the famous Hunt's reef and other leaders in the waUs.
