TEACHING PROFESSION.
CANTERBURY BOARD'S ATTITUDE. CERTIFICATES NEEDED. i _____ ißy Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. In view of the large number of qualified students being turned out by the Training College, the Education Board has been urged to take steps to fill all positions with graded teachers and dispense with the services of those teachers who have not obtained certificates. The board has accordingly given notice to about six teachers. There arc about fourteen uncertificated teachers in Canterbury, but the majority of these have almost qualified for certificates, having only one or two more subjects in which to qualify. As these teachers are doing satisfactory work, the board is' giving them a chance to qualify next year. The board will enforce the regulation regarding married women. This provides that the board will not appoint a married woman whose husband is able to support her, if other eligible teachers are available.
