TOWN'S GOOD RECOVERY. KORTLANG AND JAMES SAVE DAY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) • WELLINGTON, this day. In view of the approach of Plunket Shield matches and the English tour, considerable interest was manifested in the Town v. Country fixture, which commenced at the Basin Reserve yesterday. Batting first, Town, after a disastrous start, ran up a total of 340. When stumps were drawn Country had lost two wickets for 56 runs. Kortlang was the hero of Town's innings, giving a masterly display of sound batting and knocking up 149 not out. James played most attractive and exhilarating cricket in compiling 82.
