CHINESE STUDENTS.
TEACHERS MALTREATED. WUCHANG COLLEGE CLOSED. TROUBLE IN HANKOW. (By Cable.—Press Association.— Copjrls&t.i (Received 1.30 p.m.) PEKING, November 19. The Teachers' College at Wuchang has been closed as a result of the disgraceful insubordination and threatening attitude of the Chinese students. This trouble was instigated by students in the neighbouring town of Liuyang, who were responsible for the recent evacuation of the missionaries there. The vice-principal was flogged, incarcerated, and forced to promise not to return to the college. The students then took possession of the college and insulted and threatened the foreign teachers, demanding that they themselves should have control and the right to decide questions of discipline. • A message from Hankow says the situation ■ there is daily becoming more serious. The foreign concessions are repeatedly entered by carloads of armed Reds. Contrary to regulations foreign property has been searched on various pretexts, and motors have been commandeered. British marines ashore were stoned by Chinese mobs.
