LOSSES BY FIRE.
BLAZE AT NGARUAWAHIATHREE SHOPS DESTROYED. ACCIDENTS TO FIREMEN. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) ■ NGARUAWAHIA, this day. Three shops in Mac Far lane's Building: in Jesmond Street,. were destroyed bi fire in the early hours of this morning Two were occupied by Mr. J. Simich hairdresser and tobacconist, one as £ shop and the other as a billiard saloon while the third shop was occupied bj Miss E. Pickering, ladies' outfitter. Al the shops were completely gutted anc no stock was saved. Miss Pickering and her uncle, Mr Cornish, escaped hurriedly in their nighi attire, and lost all their clothing anc personal effects. Their losses an heavy, as Miss Pickering l had only £25( insurance on her stock in the Stati Office, and no insurance on her persona effects. Mr. Simich was insured in the Atlai Office, but the amount is not yet. avail able. The fire brigade did good work ii extinguishing and checking the spreac of the fire. Fireman J. Morron had i hand badly cut by falling glass anc needed medical attention, while Fire man A Stow was overcome by heat anc smoke, and collapsed. The concrete dividing wall assisted tc prevent the spread of the fire to thi rest of the block.
