The Mayor (Mr. G. Baildon) and the acting-Town clerk (Mr. J. Melling) paid an official visit to the Japanese Consul (Mr. A. B. Roberton) this morning in connection with the birthday of the Emperor of Japan. The proposal to acquire a hostel for men students attending the Auckland University College has been advanced another stage, as the College Council is now in a position to equip a house near the college for the purpose. The house will provide sufficient accommodation for at least fifty boarders. The tariff which has been proposed is 32/G a week, inclusive of extras and supper.
