To stop hiccoughs, try a lump of sugar saturated with vinegar. Don't blacken a stove while it is hot. It takes more blacking and less polish. Don't scour the inside of coffee pots. Wash them with hot soap suds, using a mop to dry thoroughly. Don't put tin pans on the stove to dry. They become heated, the solder loosens, and they soon leak. Don't pour boiling water over china packed in a pan. It will crack by the sudden contraction and expansion. ■ Don't use good knives for scraping the table. A cheap knife will answer the purpose. Don't put damp towels in the linen basket. Dry them first, or they will mildew. Don't allow the soap to remain in a bucket or pan of hot water; it wastea Have soap cups to fasten to the sides. When the lid of a screw-top jam bottle is hard to remove, place a hot flatiron on top for a few minutes. The heat will make the lid, expand, and the rest is easy. Ironbark pumpkin is a favourite vegetable, but difficult to cut and peel. Place it in a warm oven for a few minutes and it will do both quite easily afterwards. Ink stains may be removed from linen by putting melted tallow on the marks and then washing the article. The ink and the grease will come out together. A delicious way to prepare round steak is to pound flour into it, then brown in fat, add. onions, and cover with water and beef extract and cook about three-quarters of an hour. To clean waterproof coats, lay the coat on the table, and, with a soft piece of flannel, rub yellow vaseline all over it. By this method it is reproofed as well as cleaned. Hang up to dry. Don't pour boiling water and soap on grease spots. Moisten the spots first with a cold saturated solution of sal soda, then scrub them with' the grain of the wood, using cold soapsuds.
