WIRELESS PROGRAMMES.
(To tbe Editor.) Sir,—As one who has appeared at IYA. will you kindly permit mc space to reply to one or two of the letters recently appearing in the "Star-" To ''Wireless Enthusiast" I should like to point out that the biggest set back IYA has yet had was the loss of Miss Quinn. She "herself was reluctant to leave, and the reason, I believe, was because she was expected to take on the station clerical work as well as the accompaniments. Now "Estatic" blames the artists, but this of course, is to be expected, as during the past two months or so we have had nearly all "tryouts" on the pro* grammes. To the uninitiated I should explain that unless you are a Caruso or a Melba. you have to have a "tryout" 'to■begin with, which, of course, you have to give gratis, and usually the first turn gets messed up, so you have another shot and perhaps a third, and so the evening is filled up in a "business manner." It might be suggested the tryout be conducted on a dummy mike or something of the sort, but IYA thinks otherwise. I was speaking to a prominent man in the trade to-day, and he blamed ns as listeners-in for the trouble- Our organisation is practically defunct, and our rep-—with due respect to him—is a Government official and cannot be expected to ginger things up. I think with the hundreds of new listeners that have recently taken up licenses we should form an association to represent our views.—l am, etc.. LISTENER-IN.
