DAMAGE TO HOUSE.
TWELVE BOYS CHARGED.
HELD A BOXING TOURNAMENT.
Twelve hoys whose ages ranged from 12 to 15 years, appeared before the Children's Court this morning charged with wilfully damaging a house to the extent of £12 2/6. The boys all pleaded not guilty. They admitted going into the house, which was an old one. They said that they found the back door open and went in to have a boxing tournament.
Counsel for one of the boys said that they did not enter the building with the idea of breaking and entering. They admitted doing pertain damage to the wallpaper. They denied having removed any electric fittings. Sergeant Lambert stated that the ( >V. ;l i...n (]'ic\ not refer so much to the electric fittings as to damage to the wallpaper. There were paintings on the wall of an obscene nature. The boys did not admit this offence. The back door had alfo been forced open. The owner of the house stated that it had become untenanted while she was out of Auckland. She had had to have two of the rooms papered on account of the indecent writing and paintings on the walls. She had also had to have the back gate painted for the same reason. She had spent over £20.
The boys were ordered to pay £1 each, while two of them were placed under supervision for three years.
