AT WHITE HOUSE

QUEEN MARIE'S VISIT.

EXCHANGE OF COURTESIES. (Received 10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, October 20. Queen Marie of Rumania, who is the first reigning Queen to be entertained at a State banquet at" White House, was received by tho President, Mr. Calvin Coolidge, members of the Cabinet and heads of the foreign mission. In the afternoon Queen Marie called at White House, and immediately after her departure Mr. and Mrs.. Coolidge returned the call at the Rumanian Legation. '* The Queen and her party visited Annapolis Naval Academy on Wednesday, and their departure for New York in the afternoon marked the conclusion of the State Department's arrangements for the tour of the United States and Canada. Departing from the customary practice of prominent foreign visitors, the Queen decided not to allow newspaper correspondents and photographers to accompany her in the special train. She desires to travel in privacy after leaving New York. She has had difficulties with the railroad authorities, who refused to grant her the usual rate for transporting a special train over their lines. This is responsible for the elimination of California from the itinerary. The New York "World" announced on Wednesday that Queen Marie had arranged with a newspaper syndicate for the writing and publication by its" members of the story of her journey.
