OBITUARY.

SIB GEOBGE MAKOILL.

DIES IN LONDON.

Information has been received of the death in London of Sir George Makgill, eleventh Baronet of Kembath, Fifeshire, Scotland, who was for a long time a resident of the Auckland district. He was the son of Sir John Makgill, Captain R.E., who for a number of years lived on the other side of the Manukau harbour. Sir George Makgill was the author of novels, magazine articles, and stories, chiefly of colonial life. Amongst his publications are "Outside and Overseas," "Cross Trails," "Black Law," and "Felons." Sir George was a member of the Authors', Caledonian, New, and Edinburgh Clubs. The successor to the title is the son of deceased, Sir John Donald Alexander Arthur Makgill, of the Coldstream Guards. Two brothers of Sir George are Dr. R. H. Makgill, 0.8. E., of the Health Department, Wellington, and Mr. John Edward Makgill, of Wapiti Avenue, Epsom. The title dates back to 1627.

MRS. HELEN BARRY. j An old resident of Remuera and Tamaki for many years, Mrs. Helen Barry, died on Monday. The interment took place on Tuesday at Panmure Cemetery, the Rev. Father CBriene. officiating at the graveside. Mrs. Barry was born in County Westmeath, Ireland, 80 years ago, and came to Auckland in the ship Queen of the North wien a girl of eighteen years of age. to join her brother, Mr. George Lee, who served through the Maori War. Three years later she was married to the late Mr. Garrett Barry, who for a long time was farming, first at Remuera and later at West Tamaki. Of recent years, Mrs. Barry has resided with her daughter at Keith Avenue, Remuera. Until about a month ago she enjoyed good health. Mrs. Barry was much respected by many friends. Her husband predeceased her, and one son, Mr. Garrett Barry, was killed during the late war. The following children survive : Messrs. W. Barry (Tamaki),. P. Barry, E. Barry, D. Barry, Miss Barry, and Mrs. Geoffrey. There are 27 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
