DEATH OF STEVEDORE.
CLAIM BY WIDOW. DECISION RESERVED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Appeal Court, after hearing evidence in the case of Welsh v. Canadian Merchant Marine, Ltd., reserved it 3 decision. The al>ove is a case in whivh the widow of Isaac Welsh, foreman stevedore, sued the Canadian Mercantile Marine, Ltd., for £392S damages in respect of the death of her husband, who v as killed at Lyttelton on November 17, when engaged in loading one of the company's vessels. A rope, carrying a load of cargo, broke, and it was shown that part of it had. unknown to anyone, been in contact with acid, and had become defective at the point of contact. Mr. Justice llerdman. who tried the case, held that there had been no negligence, and dismissed Mrs. Welsh's claim. His decision is now appealed against.
