A SUPERB SOUVENIR.
BRETT'S CHRISTMAS ANNUAL
BEAUTIFUL PLATES IN COLOUR
THE VERY THING TO POST AWAY.
Brett's Christmas Annual for 1926 will be published on Monday next. There is no publication in the Dominion, or overseas for that matter, which produces a higher standard of colour or half-tone work than this well-known paper. This year four beautifully reproduced pictures in colour are introduced into the annual itself, while for the extra supplement the famous Champagne Pool at Wairakei has been selected as a subject. This has been printed on heavy paper in full colour from a painting by Mr. Tom Ryan, and makes a wonderfully attractive picture of one of the wonders of our thermal regions. The other colour plates, any one of which would be suitable for the supplement of an ordinary annual, are devoted to a scene on the Awahou, a Rotorua trout stream from the brush of Mr. E. W. Payton, a dimpse of Port Nicholson from the hills behind Day's Bay, Wellington, by Miss H. H. Pulleine. an ancient Maori village on the Ongarue River and a magnificent view in the Kauri forest at Trounson Park, by Mr. Chas. Blomfield. But apart from the colour work the thirty-two pages of photographic reproductions are surpassingly fine. The photographs published have been chosen, not only for their artistic merit as pictures, but to give a comprehensive idea of the scenic wonders and natural beauties of both islands. The photography is technically perfect, and the high quality of the reproduction is something of which the proprietors are justifiably proud. Two admirable illustrated articles are features of tbe Annual. "Two Girls and a Guide in the Southern Alps," describes the delightful fortnight spent by two Dunedin girls while passing oveT the Mount Cook range and back again. There has been very little written in a popular way of actual experiences in the Southern Alps, and aided by an excellent set of photographs, Miss D. H. de Beer's story gives an admirable idea of what the amateur mountaineer sees and does on such a trip. Mr. Troughton Clark writes interestingly of White Island, and his story, with its wonderful photographs, give a fascinating .picture of a trip which the author declares has no equal in the world.
Last year the Annual was sold out within ' a few days of publication, and this year t'ae ' excellence of the production and the large number of orders and inquiries already received,-- make it obvious that once again the race will be to the swift, and that those who wish tn obtain a copy wiV need to act promptly.
