A SAVAGE ASSAULT.

MASKED MAN'S WEAPON.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

LEVIN, this day.

A violent assault was committed on Thursday night at Miranui upon a flaxworker named Fitzsimon, who was lying down in a room at the men's quarters, when a masked man entered and demanded money.

On being refused, he attacked Fitzsimon with stones tied in a handkerchief. Fitzsimon's cries brought aid, and the intruder decamped.

The police have arrested Xcil Porensen Hansen, a discharged flaxworker, in connection with the assault.
