BOOM IN BUILDING (From Our Own Correspondent.) OPOTIKI, Friday, j Extensive building operations are now in progress in Qpotiki. A concrete building in Church Street is rfi the course of erection, and will comprise a picture theatre and two commodious shops. The contractors are Messrs. W. Wylie and Co., and the cost of the building is in the vicinity of ; £BOOO. It is reported that Mr. R. Kef ridge, of Gisborne, has taken the lease of the theatre. Messrs. J. Stacey and Co., contractors, of Auckland, have secured the contract fof another new theatre, which Will be built in Chiifch Street for. Mesars. McGrevy Bros., and will .be occupied by Mt. F. W. Meikle, of Tauranga. The theatre, which will be known as the New Alhambra, will have seating accommodation for 720. Among other modern ideas, the theatre will have a sloping floor. Primary Work has already com* menced. A new plumbers' establishment has just been completed for Messrs. R. Carruthers and Co., in Main Street. Plans are now being prepared for two new garages in Main Street, and considerable activity in house building is in evidence. Mr. E.. who is building the new bridge over the Waioeka River, at a cost of • £30,000, is.making noticeable progress, although considerable time will be .lost owing to dahiage caused by the fecetat flood.
