FIRE AT ASHBURTON.
■■■■' • - _- HEAVY LOSS SUSTAINED. BURGLARS ARE SUSPECTED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ASHBURTON, this day. A fire at Methven this morning destroyed the premises occupied by Mr. M. A. Stone, tobacconist, mercer and billiard saloon proprietor, and by Mr. J. F. Stone, secretary of the racing and trotting clubs, A. and P. Association, and Dairy Company. All the contents were lost except Mr. Stone's books and safe. The premises were owned by Mrs. J. H. Stone, and a portion was burned last year, the present fire completing the destruction. The door of the billiard saloon which was locked late last night was found open when the alarm was given, and burglars are suspected. The insurances were £1250 on Mr. Stone's stock and billiard tables, and £1000 on the building. Mr. Stone estimates his loss at £1000 above the insurance.
