AIR OF EXCITEMENT.
END OF CONTEST DRAWS NEAR "MISS NEW ZEALAND" "WILL SOON BE KNOWN. THE FINAL HUSH OF ENTRIES. Already there is an atmosphere of excitement about the city, prompted by the fact that the "Miss New Zealand" beauty contest lias almost reached its most important period. The Southern centres have chosen their final twelve, *nd the Christckurch girls have been appearing in the theatre for some nights now. The Wellington judges have almost completed their task of choosing the best twelve for that province. And now Auckland has almost reached the end of its provincial contest. There is little more than -a week to Co before entries close. We again stress the poh't that no entries or photographs can be received in this office after October 23. We must also urge any contestants 'who have paid their entrance fees, but who have not been photographed, to make arrangements immediately. The final rush is in progress at the present time. Entries come to hand from all parts of the province each day, and we have now close on 430 entries. Consequently, the official photographers are working at top speed, and the longer compettiors hold the matter over, tiie more rushed will have to be the work of the men who take the pictures. Our new feature has attracted the greatest interest throughout the province, and hundreds of people are just waiting for the time when they will d» able to try their luck at judging. We repeat tiic conditions briefly:— £100 will be paid to any person who succeeds In placing the twelve girls chosen by the judging committee in the order in which they will stand at the close of the newspaper vote. In the event of no one succeeding in this, £23 will be paid to the voter who selects the greatest number in correct consecutive order, commencing with number one, and a further prize of £10 to the next nearest. The names of the twelve will be printed on special forms in the "Star," commencing on October 30, when the pictures will be published, and coupons will also appear to enable readers to vote for the best four of the dozen. SOUVENIR BOOKLET. An artistic souvenir booklet, containing the pictures of the provincial winners, our own contestants, and international beauties, is now being printed, anJ w)l] be available during the grand pageant. CANTERBURY'S TWELVE. What enormous interest the pictures of Canterbury's chosen twelve caused last evening. Comment and speculation could be" heard on all sides. Shortly, we will be able to give our readers the pictures of the Dunedin, and then the Wellington girls selected by the judges in each centre. DON'T BLAME US!
