NEW BUNGALOWS AT FTJRIT. A LOCAL GIRL'S SUCCESS. To show their appreciation of the many services rendered to the brigade by the Radios' Committee and their friends, the members of the Thames Volunteer Fire Brigade entertained them at the station to a social evening, which took the form of a progressive euchre nnd dance. During the evening Superintendent Garrntt expressed especially mentioning Mrs. Pollock, to whom he presented a set of dessert knives and forks as n small token of their appreciation. Mr. Pollock sincerely thanked the brigade on behalf of his wife for the handsome present and the kind thoughts which accompanied it. During the week a visit was made to the Technical and High Schools by Miss M. Dyer, departmental organiser and inspector of the domestic science branch of education. The many suggestions offered and the instruction given by Mists Dyer in this hriinch of education is proving very beneficial to the teachers. Puru, that picturesque little flat about nine miles from Thames on the Coromandel road, is growing in favour as a summer resort every year. Encircled by a sate and sandy beach. and shaded by immense pohutukawas. it is now very difficult to secure a suitable section within easy distance of the beach. This summer will sec the erection of many more bungalows, besides a large cafeteria and a private bowling green. Miss Doris Gleeson. of Thames, has been successful in passing the higher local examination in elocution, ■with honours, conducted by Trinity College. London. For some time Miss Gleeson has shown marked ability in elocutionary art. and it is pleasing to Ece her study rewarded.
