O'Hallorun Engineers Keport—The engineer stated IS?. °' v ™ n S to unfavourable weather the tulfllment of road contracts had been delayed. The formation contract for the Menderaou main highway was being pushed on, and the City Council had commenced concreting the last nection of the road, which would probably be open for Christmas traffic. Regarding the eastern ridings, Mr. Andrew Murray reported that he had called tenders for widening the Helensville to Ivaukupakapa Road, and had replaced culverts on this road by concrete pipes, and the road woold be vastly improved. Inland Koad wan to be metalled, and the Makaruu to Went Coast Koad widened and the bridge od this road rebuilt. Proposals for widening and metalling the Wainul to Waiwera main highway were submitted, but all other woik northwards had been deferred pending the definite location of the Northern main highway route by the Public Works Department. Eaves Hill, on Orewa to Waiwera Road, was to be metalled, and a thousand yarfld of metal had been dumped at Arkle's Bay for metalling the Silverdale to Whangaparaoa Road and the Whangaparaoa to Tiritiri Road. In ukeatua Kiciing, Sergeant's Bridge is to be reconstructed and Paremoremo Block Road formed. Steady progress was being made or tlje Birkepbeud to Albany main highway contract, and it was proposed to metal the Oreenhithe to Cuthiil road. Fifteen chains of Kairri Park Road, Birkenhead, had been metalled, and it was proposed to further improve Archer'e Road. Bad weather had delayed the worfc on Wray's Hill, Takapuna East Coast Road, but the work was now being pushed on. In Takapuna Riding, Kowhai Road was being metalled and shelled. Clyde Road Bridge, Brown's Bay, was being rebuilt, and Takapuna to Redraie Road at Okura was being blinded with shell, Hoad Obstruction.. —A prosecution was authorised against a Silverdale resident, whom it was alleged had ploughed up a public road in a spirit of resentmept Wairau claim for £SOO as compensation was received from Albert W. Clark for alleged injury through the new road to the bridge passing hie property at Milford.

Oakley Quarry.—The output for the month was stated at 080 cubic yards, distributed as follows :—Rothesay Bond, Takapuna, 358 ynrds ; Kowhai Road, Takapuna, 80 yards; Silverdale to Whangaparaou Koad, 551 yards.

Eating House Registration.—lt was reported that under the Health Act, 1920, it i?as now necessary to register all places where food was sold, and make periodical inspection of same. It was resolved to fix fees and terminate all licenses annually on March 31.

By-laws.—The engineer reported that it was difficult to convince people that the couDty by-laws must be respected. Tour prosecutions for heavy traffic breaches were authorised, also one for breaking open the Parakai sewers to make a connection without a permit.

Waitakere Station Bridge. The engineer recommended the erection of a new bridge at Waitakere Station to serve the Waitakere West Coast Kgad. The traffle to the old bridge passed through the station reserve and tbiu would not be ullowffd indefinitely. Hβ recommended that a new bridge be erected at the northern end of the station reserve, and that the Waitakere West Coast Read be deviated from Anzac Valley Road junction to the proposed new site, thus closing a very dangerous level crossing by the railway water tanks. The matter was referred to a committee for consideration.

New Bridge Lean. —A special order wae confirmed raising £5100. the Council's share of the new bridge over the MFairan Creek to be constructed by the Takapuna Borouch Council.

Subdivisions.—Plans were submitted for npproval, as follows: —Mrs. Harrison's Estate. Chivalry Koad, Birkenhead; W. Slanoy's subdivision at Brown's Bay : Outhwaite's Block. Rothesay Bay ; E." Russell. Kaurilands Estate, Waikumete: road through lot 2S. Waiknmete Parish, Auckland City Council; lots 74 and. 76, Waarl Hamlet, E. and A. Hutchinson.

New Roads.—The tallowing were legalised : —H. C. Jones' subdivision of roads at Bed Beach Estate, Whangaparaoa - T Hunter's roads through eectioa S-% FaremorimQ Parish. _ .
