NEW SERVICE ARRANGED.
TO COMMENCE NEXT .YEAR,
LONDON, September 2.
An important step toward* the establishment of an Empire air route is announced by Imperial Airways. An air service to India will begin on New Year's Day.
Five large aeroplanes are to be used for the carriage of passengers and mails. They will he triple-engined. machines and will be capable of. developing 1200 horse-power. One machine will leave Cairo on alternate Wednesdays and will connect • with the P. and O. liner from England. It will land at Bagdad on Thursday when passengers . and mails will be transferred to another air liner.
, The second machine will fly via the Persian Gulf to Karachi, where it will arrive on Saturday, in time to connect with • the trans-Indian train for Delhi and Calcutta.
The return flight from 'Karachi will be commenced on'the following Thursday. Bagdad will be reached on Saturday and Cairo on Sunday, in time to connect with the liners for Marseilles'
Through passengers will spend three nights in specially constructed rest houses in the desert. •
Five to eight: days will be saved on the usual time of the journey-
