NOXIOUS WEEDS.

DRASTIC LEGISLATION. ONUS OX OWNERS. (By Telegraph. —Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The appointment by borough councils and town boards of district inspectors under the Noxious Weeds Act is one of the provisions of the Noxious Weeds Amendment Bill introduced in the House last night. Occupiers of land are now called upon to trim hedges and keep land cleared of noxious weeds at least once a year, and the work must be done in the time specified. "Clearing" is given a new definition —"cutting down, or grubbing, or pulling up the stem or root of any noxious weed." Where a person who is convicted for failure to clear land within a month commits a further offence he is liable to a tine of not less than £3 and not over £50.
