GUNMEN AND POLICE.
A NEW YORK STREET SCENE. DEATHS AJfD WOUNDS. Peter Blanco, twenty-etx years old, Staten Island, who with hie brother Domlnck was shot bye confederate who also wounded Detectives Henry Hoffman and Thomas HammUl when the detectives were taking the Blancos and two other suspects in an automobile to police headquarters, dief* in Bellevue Hospital. Death was attributed .to a wound In the throat and Ipbur pneumonia. Dominkk, twenty years old, lived In Long Island City, lay in an adjoining cot In the prison ward when Peter died. He has a buUet wound In the abdomen, but It was reported that his condition had improved. Hoffman and Hammill were patients In the hospital, with bullet wounds in the arms and legs. The detectives had become suspicions of the Biancos and the other two inspects when they saw them enter an automobile at Second Avenue end 116 th Street. They found a loaded pistol on Peter Bianco and decided to take all four to police headquarters for questioning. Pive confederates of the prisoners, unknown to the detectives, trailed the car, and on a signal from one of the captives the prisoner who was driving the ear unexpectedly turned into Twentyfirst Street from Fourth Avenue, and brought-it to a etop. The men In the other car opened fire on the detectives. Two bullets broke one of Hammill's arms, but he continued to shoot at the gunmen. Hoffman leaped out of the car and emptied his pistol at the men before they fled. The Biancos were shot when they were attempting to disarm the two detectives. The other two prisoners escaped during the shooting.
