MODERN DRESS.
(To the Killlor.) Si,-.—Would Mrs. (i. Kdith Burton explain why the exposure nf a woman's knees is indecent '( Are not knees as moral as. say. elbows? There are a very few girlish legs so delight fully shapely thai In hide them were a shame. I'nfortunately. ihe great majority nt feminine legs are either too fat or too thin, and. being without form or comeli-ne-'s. not, to hide them is a shame. However, a woman's limbs are her own. and whether she decides to expose them or to hide them surely is her own affair. 1 would remind A. I'uinmings that Xatnro intended the uge of puberty to bo the age of consent, and it is more than doubtful whether the well-meaning efforts of women's welfare societies to tamper with natural laws have been successful. Cirls and men are not made moral by legislative Acts-. it" the law of the land perversely maintains that n girl is still a child when actually she is a woman grown, why should not that girl be dressed as a child? If an elderly woman elects to make an exhibition nf herself by dressing as a young child when she is unable to support the role. why not let her? She may be foolish. but what harm is she doing, and why should any man concern himself to guess her age. Some people are never happy unless they are agitating for the restriction of a personal liberty.— I am etc.. V. WORRINOHAM HARTE.
