RODOLPH VALENTINO.
HIS DEATH ANNOUNCED. NEW YORK, August 23. Rodolph Valentino died yesterday. (A. and N.Z.) Eodolph Valentino was an Italian, having been born in Southern Italy in 1805. On reaching manhood he went to New York, where he became a professional dancer. His grace and skill soon made him a well-known figure on the, vaudeville stage and in cabarets. With a moving picture career in view he went to California, continuing his dancing career until he obtained hie first offer to appear in pictures. As a film actor he attracted no particular attention until his appearance as Julio in "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse," in which he immediately won wide public approval. This success was followed by the leading roles in "The Sheik" and in "Blood and Sand," when his position as the most popular male star in highly coloured and romantic roles was assured. His later pictures were not so successful, and his popularity during the last two years had waned.
