TOOTHACHE.
Groan ! ! The Binks family started, as that unfamiliar sound broke the serenity of the parlour. Pa Binks looked round for ta« offender, and saw Septimus Binks clasp, ing a hand to bis jaw. "Septimus," said Binks, senior, severely: 'What's the matter?" A groan from Septimus answered him. "Tell mc what is the matter at once," said Pa again. He had lost patience very quickly, as his paper had been interrupted. Toof-ache," explained Septimus briefly. "What caused it, dear?" inquired mother kindly, while pa glared. Septimus seemed relieved, and be aaid something about an ice cream. Pa heard it, and an argument began. "You boys," he began, with a glance at Horatio, "will never stop eating those ice creams and objectionable sweetmeats." Groans from Septimus. Pa glared at him and went on. "No more money will I give you for such articles." Here he glared at the paper, and was met with "So-and-so's ice cream. For young and old." He fiung it aside with a snort. A groan interrupted him as be thought for something to» say. "Boy," he roared, "don't sit there groaning and moaning; do something. Put some salt in your tooth. Have it pulled out. Do something to it!" Groan, from Septimus. Pa rose and went out. Next nisht, the toothache over and pa good tempered, the BinTts paid * visit to the picture palace. The night, somewhat close, seemed to have an effect on no one except Binks, senior. Often a very damp handkerchief was brought forth, as he mopped his brow. At last he broke the spell. "Septimus," he said, handing that person two shillings, "zo and get an ice cream each, ( and hurry." Septimus went.
