MUCH TOO DRASTIC.

LOCAL BODIES LOAN BILL. OPPOSED LN WHANGAREL i ————— \ (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAitEI, this day. At the Whangarei Borough Council meeting last night reference was made to the proposed Local Bodies Loan Board Bill. The Mayor moved that a letter be forwarded to the Prime Minister stating that the council considers the provisions of the bill much too drastic. He explained that the bill provided that every loan proposal contemplated by a local body should be approved by a board, the only specified members of which were two already overworked o£fi» cials, the Secretary of the Department of Internal Affairs and the Engineer int Chief of the Public Works Department. They had power to delegate their duties to others.

Other members of the council concurred that interference with local bodies' determination was a mistake. The motion was carried.
