ROUGH PLAY INCIDENT. METHOD OF INQUIRY. WELLINGTON PLAYER SUSPENDED. (By Telepraph.—Special to "Star.") WELLINGTON, this day. ''Nothing is to be gained by washing our dirty linen in public,"' said Mr. Prendeville, chairman of the Wellington Rugby Union Management Committee, when an inquiry was being made into allegations of rough play in the PonekeI'etone match on Saturday. "The object of holding such inquiries in committee." he continued, "Ms in the interests of the players themselves. We have been accused of using Star Chamber methods, but personally I consider the committee course is the correct one." A referee (Mr. Carson) had reported the ordering off of the Poneke captain (S. Shearer) for striking an opponent. He had also reported B. Algar (Poneke Club coach) for having used insulting language to him at half-time. The club wanted an open inquiry, but a motion to this effect was defeated. Shearer was suspended for one playing Saturday, and Algar was cautioned.
