NOTES FROM CANTERBURY.

(By Teleferaph—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, This day. At Riccarton yesterday morning, Gyrene with Paper Rose as a mate ror the last hair mile, ran six ruriongs comrortably in 1.20. Moorland sprinted, half a mile, brilliantly in 495, and Deucalion went well while doing: nve ruriongs in 1.5 3-5. Centrcpipce covered six furlongs nicely in 1.1? •J-5. with a mate to bring: him home. Paper Boy ran hair a mile comrortably in Bis. KJlbox and Clare Crag were companions in a userul hair mile. Precious had Delicious as a mate over the last part or an easy six-rurlongr spin. Serotina finished in front or Royal Head at the end or half a mile. The Harp covered six furlongs in 1.16, a very attractive gallop. Kendal, Passin' Through and Zircon were companions over a mile. They ran together ror six ruriongs. when Kendal dropped back, and at the finish Zircon was going comfortably, just in front of Passin' Through, the time being 1.50. These three look well. Warhaven'and Master Sandstone were companions in an easy half mile. Sun Up reeled off five furlongs In 1.3 1-5, a smart effort, as he went off from a slow start. Rivalry covered seven furlongs in 1.32, and finished well. Gay Juliet beat Cornstalk over hair a mile in 50 1 -ss. I Gold Mint was too good for Silver Cord, i while doing a similar task in 51 l-ss. I Charlatan (E. Shaw). Tuki (H. Rvder). and | Red Cent (O. Cullum) came out together! to school. The first-named pair went in company, while Red Cent followed at a gap or a ruriong. Red Cent ran about at two fences along the back, and ran off at the top or the straigtit.. In the meantime Charlatan and Tuki were Jumping well at a sound pace. When they got to the top of the straight the second time Red Cent joined In and jumped two fences with them in his best style. Charlatan and Tuki were then pulled up, having given a very fine display. Red Cent went on for two more alone, but again his effort was not nearly so good as when he was in company. Crossbow easily beat Tarn Glen and a Clarenceux gelding over five furlongs, the last half mile taking 52 Cultivation and SoKello occupied 1.5 2-5 over five ruriongs. Tenterneld, Prince Ferouz and Bonomel nnished in that order ln a school over four hurdles. Tenterneld gave a brilliant display and Prince Ferouz shaped pretty well, but Bonomel's effort was not attractive. Birkenella (E. Garrett) had Spearpoint (R. McSeveney) as a mate 1n a school once round the fences. The pace was not very fast, and it was Just a Tair performance, but Birkenella has the reputation or being a disappointing horse at times when schooling. North Inch gave a good display while schooling once round the fences, and he looks like turning out well as a steeplechaser.
