Sept. 24, 25—Napier I'ark R.C. " Sept. 25. 27—Avondale J.C. Llandudno has been turned out for a spell at Poukawa. It is understood that A. E. Ellis will ride Nukuniai in his engagements at Riccarton. Mask is reported to have developed a good deal during the winter and he is said to be an entirely different horse now. He has put on condition and is a ball of muscle now, while he hits out well. Chickwheat's winning form at Washdyke on Saturday (says Argus) was attractive, as he was always well placed and he finished on solidly, but the effort of Bugle Note was also suggestive of an early win. Maunga, which was sent from Hastings to Riccarton on Friday, is stated not to be as well forward as last year when ho ran third in the Grand National Hurdle Race. He will be all the better for a race or two, though he sometimes races well when fresh. Tigerland was very- tired when he pulled up at the end of the South Canterbury Steeplechase on Saturday, but it is thought that he will be improved by the race. Tigerland finished second to Sturdee when that horse won the Grand National Steeplechase in 1924. Although he has not raced for a year, says the "Wanganui Chronicle," Halgina is - one of the fittest horses on tlie Wanganui trackß. He is said to be a good jumper and a horse with his pace on the flat should do well over hurdles. His condition reflects great credit on his trainer, J. Hay. Civility, which is a well fancied Winter Cup candidate, was sprinted over six furlongs with Mask at Wanganui on Saturday. The latter jumped away with a couple of lengths start, but Civility was on terms with him after going two furlongs and went on to pass the post two lengths ahead in 1.16 4-5. Civility has shown ability over seven furlongs and there- is no reason why she should not run out a good mile. . Kiosk was sent to Sydney some time ago and then brought back to Wanganui. He has not apparently done a great deal since then, but on Saturday was given a spin over iour furlongs, which he ran in 51 1-5. According to "Early Bird," his meeting with Lysander in the Wanganui Guineas will be awaited with interest, and if Seatown, which also proved himself a good youngster this season, is started in the same event, it 6hould provide a, thrilling race. When C. Christie left Wingatui early last week, he had four of Mr. R. Acton Adams' horses under his care, but he will arrive at Riccarton with a greatly reduced team. General Advance and Cartoon broke down at Waimate and it is feared that both horses are hopeless cases, while Glencree's form showed that this hunter is no good. Christie will thus have only Tholomon for the Grand National meeting, but he may prove a worthy representative in hack events, as he is a very useful galloper. According to reports from Wanganui, Lysander should strip a very fit horse next September when he is sent out to contest the Wanganui Guineas. He is well forward now and ran half a mile oh Saturday in 50s. Though beaten by Limeridk in the Manawatu ires' Produce Stakes' (seven- furlOngs) in the fast time of 1.26 2-5, Lysander, which only failed by a neok, was conceding his rival 41b. From a stake earning point of view, Lysander was the best two-year-old this season. There will be an alteration in the method of showing the dividends on the totalisator at Trentham by the time the next meeting comes round. A small window will be made in the face similar to the present slots showing the investments on each horse. Roller figures like the present indicator figures during betting will be used and operated from the inside of the machine. This should make for quicker working and more celerity in tb» posting of dividends, not that Trentflam lags behind in this even at present. The South Canterbury stable of A. *nd F. Trilfrod will be represented at Jticoarton by Frisco Mail, Muzzle, Mountain Lion and Fairy Herald, which will arrive on Thuieday. Frisco Mail i B the onjy member of the team which i 3 to race at the Christchurch Hunt Club's meeting on Saturday, but tiry are all engaged at the Grand National fixture. Frisco Mail is very well and his trainers are confident he will show up prominently in hurdle engagements on the trip Muzzle, which is booked to race over country, could not be started at Waimate or Washdyke owing to an injury to his stifle, through contact with a fence, but he is nearly right again. He may show up in minor steeplechases, as he icredited with rare ability as a jumper.
