THE TRAFFIC POLICEMAN.
I INCREASING HIS VISIBILITY. WHITE COATS IK CHRISTCHURCH. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. In future, policemen who control traffic at busy street intersections in the city may wear white coats. This was the suggestion made to the City Council la-st evening by the BγLaws Committee, which reported as follows: "At different times complaints have been made that motorists are unable to see traffic policemen, both at the Bank Corner and at the Colombo and Cashel Street intersection. The committee has previously pointed out that this trouble does not arise from lack of lighting. Even much greater I intensity of lighting vrould not illuminate a dark object, and it has been suggested tha-t the practice should be adopted here which, it is understood, had been adopted elsewhere, of providing the policemen with white coats, or at least white arm coverings." The report was adopted.
