In view of tlie present unemployment situation, the following story is of interest. Yesterday was pay day for a gang of men engaged on an unemployment relief job in obo of the suburbs. After receiving their wages, the men told their foreman that, as Saturday was race day, they would not be turning up to work. This morning, However, one of tlie gang, perhaps wiser than the others, was ready to take up tools at the usual time, but owing to the threatening conditions of the weather he was paid tlie usual two hours' wages anil informed that bis services would not be required until Monday. Ladies' cosy knitted wool frocks, usually 19/11, for 12/6, Monday, opening "George Court's" Sale, Karangahape Rd.-(Ad.)
