When darkness comes and mother lights t** lamp. And father kisses the dear tiny head, The rosy lips of the dear little chap. Begin to pout at the thought of his bed. One more hag and off goes the light. •Soon his eyes droop in his curly head; Then comes a fairy in dazzling white, Who creeps to his side and touches tM bed. Up jumps the child, no longer asleep. And follows the fairy into the uight. Down by a petalled path, softly they creep, To a lake shore, to a boat shining brigStOn the silver lake, with the flowing tide. Under the stars and silver-dipped raoofi In a pearly boat with the fairy guide. Hark! to the water mother's gentle croon. They glide, and they glide, and they glide and glide. With alow lap. lap, dip, dip, as they goFar o"er the waters that are wide, so wide, Listeuing to songs that are suug so lowAcross the lake to shores yonder there, On the golden sands are figures saiall- . Misty, shadowy, figures, baby children &"*> Kiddies rosy, kiddies bright, kiddies tali. On the golden sands of Nod, see they paT, As the fairy briugs the new one so sh?, The others dance lfke elfins in the May; . Everyone laughs and no one wants to cry. So they throw the golden sands around, . And sing lightly, brightly, a slumber sOOB Which echoes in tbe pine trees, soft i a sound, . Echoes in the wind, carried far and lon.Dawn is coming! Dawn is coming! SarKQuick to the dream boats, swift let tliem away. tll (Oh! hear the calling, calling of the la""' Back to their beds before the break <*' day. Morning when the mite awakes in his bed. He cannot find the lake nor golaen saw* He rubs his evps and bumps his bead, Then squeezes tight, and rubs his 1M» V hands. Now no lake, no boat, he says with a sis'*. But lo! what is this he lias in his hanu. After rubbing so well bis little eye He finds a tiny piece of goldeu sanu. —••CALLIOPE," aged 15 Jears.
