LOSS OF PUBLIC MEN. MEMBERS PAY THEIR RESPECTS. . ' / (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Friday. Tributes to the memory of the h*.to Hon. T. W. Hislop, W. J. Geddis, and J. P. Campbell, who were members of the Legislative Council. Mr.'T. MacGibbon (a former member of the Council) and Messrs. John Graham, Andrew Graham, David Goldie, and W. J. Napier (past members of the House of Representatives! were paid by the Prime Minister, Leader of the Opposition, and other members tliis afternoon. Motions expressing appreciation of their services , and condolence to the relatives were passed and tha House adjourned as a mark of respect to the deceased. ; The Premier said the late Mr. Geddis was recognised as one of our leading journalists. He was an outstanding example of what enterprise, energy, and thrift could do for a man. Mr. Holland made reference to the fact that Mr. Geddis began his journalistic career as repoHer to the Auckland "Btar" at the age ©f 16, and for some . year? represented that iournal in the | Parliamentary Press. Gallery. He was , one of the most powerful writers New Zealand had produced. "The most striking feature of his life Was his intense -loyalty to the Crown and Constitution, and his unflagging efforts to inculcate similar motives in the young generation." said Mr. Coates, in niakins feeling reference to the late Mr. W. .T. Napier. Messrs. J. S. Dickson i and A. Harris add<-d their tributes. \ The fact that Mr. David. Gcldie had' sat under seven Governments in twelve years was mentioned when tributes were paid to his memory. Mr. Dickson said no man bad done more for social work in Auckland than the late Mr. Goldie. who had been prominent in the activities of the Methodist Church. In his day ho was a living example of generosity and benevolence,.- Keen regret was felt when he resigned his seat for bus-mess reasons.-
