Owing to the indisposition of the Governor-General Parliament was yesterday opened in Wellington by Commission, and the function lacked some of the splendour associated with the Vice-Regal attendance. These scenes depict, on the left, some of the crowd watching the proceedings outside; Hon. C. E. Statham, the Speaker, centre; and the Wellington College Cadets, which formed a guard of honour, drawn up in front of the statue to the late R. J. Seddon. Inset, from left to right, are: Hon. F. J. Rolleston, Minister of Defence; Hon. J. G. Coates, Prime Minister; and Major- General R. Young, G.0.C., N.Z Forces.
