THE GERMAN COLONIES
THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS

The Australian delegation to the League of Nations Assembly at Geneva will be Mr. Latham, Federal Attorney Oeneral, who will be the leader of the delegation. Sir Joseph Look, High Commissioner. Mr. .Manning, member of the Federal House of Representatives, and Sir Arthur Rickrml. A woman delegate is also to be chosen. Mr. Latham afterwards joins Mr. S. M. Bruce, Prime Minister," in London, and will, if necessary, act as second representative to the Imperial Conference.—(A. and N.Z.)
WILL THEY GET THEM ? LONDON, June 17. "A painstaking but essentially clumsy case for tlie return of tlie lost German colonies is made by Dr. Schnee, formerly Governor of German Fast Africa, in his book, 'Cerman Colonisation Past and Future.'" says a reviewer. "The bonk is only worthy of notice because Dr. Schnee was successively a magistrate at New Guinea, Deputy-Governor of Snmoa and Governor of Fast Africa. He might be forgiven for his bins if it had not led to y. mischievous distortion of tlie evidence when he seeks to prove tlie incapacity and even the cruelty of present mandatory Powers. "Amidst some astonishing indictments of Britisli rule, Dr. Schnee gravely asks whether the unhappy people of the former German Protectorates shall continue to be exposed to decimation by plagues and diseases with which tlie British, French and the Belgians are unable to cope. "It is time such gross insinuations were refuted. Perhaps Dr. Schnee would be reluctant to admit that under the administration of Australian doctors some tropical ex-German colonies have been virtually cleared of malaria. Dr. Schnee adopts tlie curious reasoning that the natives of former German colonies, including New Guinea, when they affirm loyalty to Germany speak from the bottom of their hearts, but when they declare preference for Britisli rule they have been bribed and bullied by cunning officials.'' —(Sydney "Sun.")
