FRENCH SCHOLARS.
MEDALS AWARDED. Two. years ago, the ; French Govern.ment, as well ac the- Society of the Alliance Francaise at Paris, offered a certain number of prize books to encourage the study of the French, language in the universities, colleges, and high schools of the Dominion. . . This year the French Consul at Auckland (M. Paul Serre) has forwarded to the Government in Wellington four beautiful medals .of exquisite design, signed by-the-famous engraver Daniel Dupuis, and bearing, the effigy of the French Republic, with the inscription: "Ministere dea Affaires Etrangeres." These medals have been awarded io the best French scholars in the four university colleges of New Zealand.—Edward M.
