SOUTHERN FATALITIES.
SUICIDE OF TWO FARMERS. DROWNED LNT A BASIX. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. An inquest concerning the death of Walter Leslie Buckingham, aged 27, a farmer of Papanui, who was found dead in the kitchen of his house with his head in a basin of water, on May 29, was resumed this morning before Mr. H. Y. Widdowson, the coroner. A verdict of suicide while in a state of acute melancholia was returned.
TTMARU FARMER'S DEATH. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) TTMARU, Wednesday. Patrick Cassidy, a farmer, of Sutherlands, aged 52, was found with a wound in his throat on Tuesday and he died that night. At an inquest to-day a verdict was returned that death was due to a razor wound self-inflicted while deceased was of unsound mind. The evidence showed that deceased had been depressed lately and had been in indifferent health. SEAMAN DIES FROM INJURIES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHBISTCHUBCH, Wednesday. Thomas John Meashan, who was found unconscious at the foot of a ladder leading down to the boat deck of the Ruahine at Lyttelton yesterday, died in the hospital to-night. Meashan worked his passage out from England as a seaman. It is believed that he intended to sign off at Lyttelton.
