It was reported at a meeting of the Auckland Unemployed Relief Committee this morning that a lad about 17 years, who had a collecting book, had called at houses in Burwood Crescent, stating that he had been authorised to collect money for the unemployed. A lady became suspicious and communicated with the acting-town clerk, and in due course the matter was reported to the police for investigation. "I have never had a threepenny legacy in my life and I am *broke' now," said the city missioner (Rev. Jasper Calder) at a meeting of the Auckland Unemployment Belief Committee this morning. The city missioner remarked upon the many cases of distress that there were in Auckland at the present time, and the urgent need of funds to help suffering families. _ Mies Mac Kingsley gives a most educational and entertaining exhibtion of spinning, weaving, knitting, and blowing glassware novelties and souvenirs from the raw material at the Auckland Winter Exhibition. This talented girl will continue her demonstrations each afternoon and evening, and visitors to the Winter Exhibition should make it a point of seeing her at work. Miss Kingeley's entertainment will be found in the amusement section upstairs. Coughs, colds, bronchitis, nasal catarrh and influenza are promptly relieved by the free use of Xazol.— (Ad.)
