SMOKING IN BUSES.
(To the- Editor.) Sir, —I quite agree with the point raised by "Master Mariner" and others re the above question, and, like him, I also walk as much as my rheumatics will permit. I am afraid of some calamity arising one fine day when the fumes of benzine will catch lire and lives be lost, as happened about eighteen months ago in a London suburb, through the light ing of a match to smoke one of those pernicious cigarettes. I notice that a serious explosion occurred in Sydney last week through fumes coming into contact with a cigarette outside the building and that several workmen were injured. If fumes can be lighted from outside, how much more dangerous is a fiiv inside the bus? It socras to mc that only when a calamity occurs will the authorities stir themselves to stop this selfish and objectionable practice.—l am. etc. LONG SUFFERER.
