PATRIOTISM IN TRADE.
(To thp Editor.l Sir, —Juet lately I have noticed a con- ] eiderablp amount of ink has been wasted in the discussion of the trade relations between the British Empire and foreign countries, particularly Germany. Juet a few days ago in your columns appeared an outburst from the south wherein the Government was rated for procuring the hire of a German lantern for the purpose of exhibiting patriotic slides. The official reply would lead us to believe that this was "an oversight and an exception, while it is well-known among those who are in a position to learn that some of the largest institutions (Government supported) in this country Use hardly anything else but German projectors, or at least have purchased none other since they have been on the market again after the conclusion of the war. Perhaps the most peculiar thing about it is that better English projectors are available, although, of course, not so cheap.—l am, etc., AN ENGLISHMAN.
