The extraordinary mentality displayed by some people of the "present day, people in whom common honesty or the slightest regard for other people' 3 property is conspicuously absent, was mentioned in no flattering terms at Monday night's meeting , of the Wellington Automobile Club. It had been suggested that a great convenience to stranded car drivers would be the installation of a telephone at the top of Paekakariki Hill. But the uselessnesa of so doing was evinced when it was stated that a similar installation at the top of the Rimutaka had attracted sneak-thieves who had not scrupled even to break into a roadman's whare and to steal everything portable. Telephone instruments and even the wire had been purloined and naturally the cost of successive replacements made such a boon to motorists too expensive a luxury. Just received ex s.s.
