In America it is quite a common thing for a motorist who has broken speed laws to lay an information against himself so that he will save court costs and expenses. To-day, for the first time in Auckland, an American tried the plan at the Magistrate's Court, but, unfortunately for him the City Council traffic department had already laid an information for dangerous driving. The chief traffic inspector (Mr. G. R. Hogan) explained to Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., that the motorist, G. R. F. Lovell, was travelling at 34 miles per hour on the Parnell Road. It was a dangerous part for there was a school close by. The motorist was fined £4. Speeding at 40 miles per hour on a motor cycle is bound to get the rider into trouble if there is a City Council traffic inspector about and J. J. C. Gardiner found at the Magistrate's Court this morning that speeding was an expensive pastime. He was fined £5 and costs on one charge and £2 and costs on another.
